MPBC President Jim Schultz to Testify Before Congress on the Consequences of Tim Walz’s Soft-On-Crime Policies

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Jim Schultz, President of the Minnesota Private Business Council, will testify before the Subcommittee on Crime and Federal Government Surveillance of the House Committee on the Judiciary at a hearing titled “The Consequences of Soft-On-Crime Policies” today, Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. ET in Room 2141 of the Rayburn House Office Building.

In his prepared remarks, Schultz will outline how during his governorship Tim Walz has delivered a substantial increase in crime and failed in his response to the riots of 2020 following the killing of George Floyd. Schultz will recount a personal story involving his sister’s harrowing experience in a Minneapolis shootout, using it to highlight how Governor Walz’s “soft-on-crime” policies have transformed Minnesota’s once-safe communities into hotspots of violence and chaos, severely impacting both public safety and the state’s economic vitality.

Key Excerpts from Jim Schultz’s Prepared Testimony:

“Tim Walz’s record on crime has left Minnesota in crisis. During his tenure, the state has become a place where criminals run free, law enforcement is assailed, and families are without the safety and security they deserve.”

“Under Tim Walz, the streets of Minneapolis went from a place to walk your dog to a place to dodge gunfire.”

“Violent crime is the legacy of Walz’s time in the governor’s mansion. Homicides have surged by 75%, and gunshot victims have doubled.”

“Minnesota now has the sixth slowest-growing economy in the entire country. To be sure, violent crime is one of the key reasons for this.”

Schultz’s testimony is expected to provide a hard-hitting perspective on how these “soft-on-crime” policies have directly impacted Minnesota’s residents, businesses, and overall quality of life, making the case that such policies pose a threat to communities across America.
