Napheesa Collier scores 23, Courtney Williams 22 to lead Lynx to 98-87 win over Aces
LAS VEGAS, NV – On Wednesday night, the Minnesota Lynx surged to a 98-87 victory over the Las Vegas Aces, thanks to standout performances from Napheesa Collier and Courtney Williams. Collier scored 23 points, while Williams contributed a season-high 22 points, along with 10 assists and seven rebounds, securing the win for the Lynx.
This victory marked Minnesota’s second triumph over the two-time defending champions this season, having previously defeated them 100-86 in Las Vegas in June. In both games, the Lynx demonstrated remarkable shooting accuracy, hitting 55.2% in their first win and 59.4% in this latest matchup.
Las Vegas made a late push, cutting a 15-point deficit with 4:40 remaining to 93-85, thanks to a layup by Jackie Young with 1:37 left. However, Williams responded with a crucial three-pointer from the left wing to seal the game.
Bridget Carleton added 12 points, Kayla McBride scored 11, and Alanna Smith chipped in 10, making it only the second time this season the Lynx had five starters in double figures, matching their earlier win against the Aces. New addition Myisha Hines-Allen, acquired via trade on Tuesday, contributed eight points off the bench.
For the Aces, Jackie Young led with 26 points and made 6 of 8 three-pointers, while Kelsey Plum added 20 points. A’ja Wilson had 15 points and nine rebounds, ending her streak of eight consecutive games with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Tiffany Hayes also scored 12 points.
The first quarter was a high-scoring affair with both teams making 20 of 31 shots and 17 assists, as the Lynx held a narrow 26-25 lead. Minnesota continued their offensive prowess in the second half, finishing the first half shooting 64.5% and leading 54-46. They maintained their momentum in the third quarter, shooting 62.5% and leading 79-67 heading into the fourth.
Minnesota wrapped up the game with an impressive shooting performance of 59% (38 of 64) and 58% (11 of 19) from three-point range, along with 28 assists. The teams will meet again in Minnesota on Friday, where the Aces previously defeated the Lynx 80-66 in May.
