New Auburn Man Found Guilty of Domestic Assault, Kidnapping

(Learfield News/Stillwater, MN) — A New Auburn man has been found guilty of kidnapping, domestic assault by strangulation, and criminal sexual conduct.

David Powers testified in his defense on Friday, but when the trial resumed Monday, he failed to return for cross-examination by the prosecution.

The verdict came on Tuesday without Powers present.

An arrest warrant is out for Powers, with Washington County Attorney Kevin Magnuson saying he “plans to ask for a significant upward departure” in sentencing once Powers is returned to court.

The total maximum conviction for the three charges is 73 years in prison.
