New Canada Tariffs Could Raise Minnesota Business Costs
New 50-percent tariffs on nearly 20-billion dollars in selected Canadian goods take effect Wednesday.
The tariffs ordered by President Donald Trump cover products including vehicles, alcoholic beverages and dairy goods. Energy, potash and several other products are exempt.
The duties could raise costs for Minnesota businesses importing covered goods. Canada was Minnesota’s largest export market last year, buying 5-point-6-billion dollars in Minnesota products.
Any additional Canadian retaliation could also affect Minnesota farmers and other companies selling goods north of the border.
