NO HUMAN CASES OF WEST NILE, ONE REPORTED CASE OF DENGUE FEVER IN MINNESOTA

The CDC is confirming the state’s first case of dengue fever of the summer.  Department of Health Epidemiologist Elizabeth Schiffman says it is considered a “Travel associated” disease in Minnesota.  She says they see a few cases every year from Minnesotans who travel to Mexico, the Caribbean or southeast Asia.  She says the West Nile Virus is the most common tick-borne disease in Minnesota.  Schiffman says Minnesota had 63 human cases of West Nile in 2023.
