Nwangwu among NFC North Cuts yesterday

(Eagan, MN) — The Minnesota Vikings made a number of cuts to get their roster down to 53 players before yesterday’s deadline. The team waived running back Kene Nwangwu, tight end Robert Tonyan, defensive lineman James Lynch, and 2022 first round safety Lewis Cine, among others. Minnesota also placed tight end T-J Hockenson on the PUP list, and added offensive lineman Dalton Risner and edge rusher Gabriel Murphy to injured reserve list. The Vikings will be able to add players from waivers and craft their practice squad over the next few days. Minnesota opens the regular season at the New York Giants on Sunday, September 8th at noon.

(Green Bay, WI) — The Green Bay Packers have finalized their 53-man roster. Anders Carlson was released which leaves former Viking Greg Joseph as the team’s Week One kicker. Green Bay also waived backup quarterbacks Sean Clifford and Michael Pratt after Malik Willis was acquired from the Titans. Both could land on the practice squad. The Packers battle the Eagles in Brazil on September 6th.

Yesterday’s cuts included fullback Khari Blasingame, quarterback Austin Reed, and punter Corliss Waitman. The Bears will be able to add players from waivers and craft their practice squad over the next few days.

(Allen Park, MI) — The Detroit Lions released quarterback Nate Sudfeld yesterday as they trimmed their roster to the 53-man limit. The move means Hendon Hooker will serve as the backup to Jared Goff. Following the rest of their moves, the Lions now have one open spot on the roster. Meanwhile, E-S-P-N reports the Lions are expected to sign veteran wide receiver Tim Patrick, who was let go by the Broncos.
