Motor Vehicle Chase in Kandiyohi County
A man has been arrested following a motor vehicle pursuit on Saturday morning in Raymond.
A Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Deputy was conducting a traffic enforcement project in the road construction detour of Minnesota Hwy 23 and 105th Street SW. A truck, driven by a 40 year old male from Boyd, had entered the construction zone illegally. The deputy attempted a traffic stop on the truck but the driver fled westbound on Highway 23, taking the ditch around the detour signs. The deputy observed children in the vehicle at the time of the stop. The driver of the truck had called 911 stating that he had his 6 and 10 year old boys in the truck with him.
Kandiyohi County Telecommunicators were able to keep the man on the phone during the pursuit to establish a dialogue. Speeds of the pursuit were relatively low, between 25 mph to 45 mph, with a brief top speed of 60 mph and light traffic in the area. Deputies communicated with the driver through dispatch and he agreed to pull over safely near Kandiyohi County Road 7. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident. The mother was able to take her children from the scene.
No injuries or property damage occurred as a result of the pursuit. The driver is being held at the Kandiyohi County Jail pending charges of fleeing, child endangerment, and driving around a barricade.
