One Dead Following Officer Involved Shooting at Area Shelter
A man is dead after a police officer shot him during a confrontation at a homeless shelter in Crookston.
Police were dispatched to the Care and Share shelter around 11:45 p.m. Sunday on a report of a fight in progress. Police Chief Darin Selzer says officers confronted the man, who they say was “being combative toward officers and was not following officers’ verbal commands.” Selzer said in a statement that “less lethal means were deployed before an officer fired their department handgun, striking the suspect”.
The man was pronounced deceased at the scene. No further details are being released at this time.
The state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has taken over the investigation.
