Perich wins Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week

(Chicago, IL) — Golden Gopher freshman defensive back Koi Perich of Esko has been named the Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week after he intercepted two passes and registered two tackles in Minnesota’s 21-17 win at U-C-L-A on Saturday. Perich becomes only the second Gopher freshman ever to win the weekly Defensive Player of the Week honor, joining former all-Big Ten safety Tyrone Carter, who won the weekly accolade in 1996. Perich’s four interceptions are already a single-season record for a freshman at Minnesota. The last Gopher to win the weekly honor was Tyler Nubin, who did it twice last season. Redshirt freshman defensive back Kerry Brown won Big Ten Freshman of the Week after the Nevada earlier this season.
