A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024, at 11 am, with a gathering from 9:30-10:45 am, at The Parish of Saints Joachim and Anne (Church of St Mark) 350 Atwood Street, Shakopee, MN. Father Frankie Floeder will preside. Pete will be laid to rest at Shakopee Catholic Cemetery.
Peter Charles Ploumen was born on September 25, 1940 in Shakopee to parents Charles and Ida (Theis) Ploumen. Pete was an only child and spent his childhood in Shakopee as well. As a young boy he loved to hunt with his family and friends, he would carry on his love for hunting into his adult life! Pete attended St. Mark’s Catholic School and would graduate in 1958.
Right after Pete would graduate from high school, he would enlist into the United States Air Force where he dutifully served his country for 4 years. He worked primarily in Mississippi, Osceola, Wisconsin, and Northern Minnesota.
After his time in the Air Force, he would go on to meet his future wife Beverly Pint. They would end up meeting through friends but Pete wasn’t quite ready to date. Beverly took this as a challenge and made a bet that if she beat him in a drag race, Pete would have to take her out on a date! They married at St. Wenceslaus in New Prague on August 22, 1964. They started their family shortly after their marriage, having their two children, Keith and Kathy.
When their kids were young, they would spend lots of their time on fishing trips up near Alexandria. As they got older, horse races became a very important part of their lives. Between the horse racing, family, and neighborhood gatherings, Pete and Beverly’s life was complete.
Towards their retirement years, Pete and Beverly loved to travel and see all the different race tracks and of course, enjoy the races held on them as well. When Beverly became sick with cancer, Pete never left his wife’s side. He took on a new role as a caretaker. He was truly devoted to her and kept his vows in sickness and in health. In the end, Beverly lost her life to her disease and Pete struggled through the next couple years. His faith kept him strong though, helping him through his grief and believing God had a plan for him.
In the past couple years of his life, he met his special friend Myrtrice “Myrtie” Wolf who he found new life and new love in. They loved to eat out at Pizza Ranch together, play scrabble, and attend Mass online together. They truly loved each other and got to share the end of Pete’s life together.
Pete’s generous and kindhearted nature will be forever remembered by his children, Keith Ploumen and Kathy (Stan) Drake; companion, Myrtice Wolf; other relatives and friends.
Pete is greeted in Heaven by his wife, Beverly Ploumen and parents, Charles & Ida Ploumen.
