POWER INTERRUPTIONS IN NEW ULM

Many in New Ulm experienced power interruptions around 8 am this (Tuesday) morning.  Public Utilities Director Kris Manderfeld says a feeder that supplies power to the hospital, water plant and Real Life Cooperative tripped, went out, went back in and tripped again.  Manderfeld says it is a large feeder trip so a lot of fault went out on the line.  Interruptions were noted on the southside of New Ulm as well as the north side, downtown and at the college.  She said most people probably noticed a blip in their lights and probably had to reboot computers, as we did here at KNUJ.  Manderfeld says the hospital, water plant and Real Life Cooperative sustained a major outage but have since gone back online.  Manderfeld says the main objective is to get everyone back online and then crews went out to try to find out what happened. She doubts the cold had anything to do with it.  There are reports of other outages throughout the area as well but we have not received confirmation yet.
