PRCA Metal Arts Festival Sept. 7

PRCA METAL ARTS FESTIVAL SEPT. 7 AT EAST SIDE PARK IN MORRIS
Event features live music, art vendors, art-making activities
The Prairie Renaissance Cultural Alliance (PRCA) will present the third Metal Arts Festival on Saturday, Sept. 7,
from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at East Side Park in Morris.
The free community event will feature live music from steel drum band Bruce and Tiki D and a performance by
Aztec folk dancing troupe Nahui Olin; a metal art contest with $600 in cash prizes; and a live metal art auction at 2
p.m. Art vendors will be on hand to display and sell their artwork. There will also be a silent auction of artworks in a
variety of mediums, including pottery, jewelry, textiles, paintings, and prints. Expanded offerings this year include
more free art-making activities for kids and adults. From noon to 3 pm, try weaving, gel printing, paper making and
mandala dot rock painting.
The event also features local food trucks, local wine, and locally crafted beer from Old No. 1’s new brew pub in
Morris.
A highlight of the festival is the metal arts contest and live auction. The “Peoples Choice” Metal Arts Contest is
open to any artist, artisan or craftsperson who incorporates any metal component into the artwork. Mixed media,
sculpture, welded artworks, used or “found” metal art, garden art, metal jewelry, three-dimensional art, fiber art with
metal, and more, are all eligible to compete for $600 in cash prizes. The goal of the art contest is to encourage
creativity and push the boundaries of mixed media and metal art, says Diane Trew, festival coordinator. Contest
pieces will be auctioned off in a live auction at 2 p.m., with proceeds benefiting the PRCA.
The third PRCA Metal Arts Festival is a celebration of local art and artists, says Rhoda Smith, PRCA president.
“The PRCA is a volunteer, non-profit organization founded in 2002. Our mission is to connect the community by
providing enriching arts experiences and celebrating the creativity of all people.”
