PUBLIC ACCESS RESTRICTION TO HERMANN MONUMENT RECOMMENDED

New Ulm Park and Rec met Monday evening and heard from structural engineers who inspected the Hermann Monument.  Park and Rec Director Joey Schugel says this is done every year prior to the monument opening to the public.  However, Schugel says because of the condition of the monument and plans for deconstruction and reconstruction in the future, the engineers recommended to the park and rec department that public access to Hermann be restricted for the first time.  Schugel says there are a couple of conditions…

Schugel says the deconstruction and reconstruction of the monument needs funding, an estimated $11.6-million so the amount of time the public will be restricted from the monument could be quite a while.  The Park and Rec Department will now send the recommendation to the city council for possible approval at their meeting Tuesday.
