Rain Helps Crews Gain Ground on Northern Minnesota Wildfires

Cooler weather and recent rainfall are helping firefighters make progress on several wildfires burning in northeastern Minnesota.

The July Lightning Incident remains at approximately 64-thousand-700 acres, with about 875 personnel assigned.

The Little Knife Fire is 90 percent contained, and management is returning to the Superior National Forest. The Chub Fire has reached full containment.

Crews continue working on the larger Bear Trap, Thumb, Sioux and Wolfpack fires.

Some areas of the Boundary Waters have reopened, but closures and fire restrictions remain in place. Travelers should check current conditions before heading into the forest.
