Red Lake Band Of Chippewa Indians Receive 3.15 Million For Clean Energy
The Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians have received more than 3 million dollars from the Department of Energy’s Local Government Energy Program.
Spokesperson Felicia Chou says that the “Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians will invest in an innovative, behind-the-meter microgrid system to provide electricity”.
The 3.15 million dollars comes from the Communities Sparking Investment in Transformative Energy funding opportunity. It’s part of $31 million dollars going to 12 tribes across the U.S. for “transformative clean energy projects” led by tribal and local governments.
U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm says these grants will reduce energy costs in places that have historically been left behind by federal programs.
