Relief From Extreme Heat in Sight

Some relief is beginning to arrive following several days of extreme heat and dry weather across Minnesota.

Assistant State Climatologist Pete Boulay says the heat dome responsible for the recent conditions is starting to weaken, allowing cooler Canadian air to move into parts of the state.

The National Weather Service says temperatures across central Minnesota are expected to reach the middle 80s today. Rain and thunderstorms are also reaching areas near International Falls and Ely.

The cooler weather and rain could help, but drought conditions remain a concern—especially in northeastern Minnesota, where hot and dry conditions have contributed to the rapid spread of wildfires. Minnesota DNR National Weather Service
