Richard Rau, age 83 of Cyrus, Minnesota, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Visitation for Richard Rau will be held Tuesday, July 14, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus, MN.
Funeral services for Richard Rau will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus, MN.
Burial will be in St. Petri Cemetery in Cyrus, MN.
Richard Rau was born on October 15, 1942, in Appleton, Minnesota, to Albert and Emma (Eliason) Rau. He graduated from Appleton High School, where he participated in track. He later completed carpentry training at a vocational-technical school. Richard also sang with the University of Minnesota Men’s Chorus, traveling to Seattle to perform at the World’s Fair.
Richard proudly served his country in the United States Navy for five years. He was actively involved in his community, coaching Little League baseball and serving his church in many capacities, including as a church council member, building committee member, and usher.
Richard took great pride in his carpentry skills. He began his career with Watkins Construction in Alexandria before establishing his own business. He operated his business for more than 35 years, earning a reputation for quality craftsmanship before retiring at the age of 62.
On June 13, 1970, Richard was united in marriage to Judy Rau.
Richard enjoyed spending time outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, and camping, and treasured the time these activities allowed him to spend with family and friends. Whether at the lake, in the woods, or around the campfire, he appreciated the simple joys of nature and the memories made along the way.
Richard is survived by his sons: Ryan Rau (Lisa Rudnick) and Eric Rau; grandchildren: Alexa (Mason) Sayler, Laurel Rau, Brooke Rau, and Rheanna Rau; Judy Rau; brother: Warren (Elaine) Rau; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Albert and Emma Rau; brother: Merton (Elaine) Rau; and sister: Ramona Rau.
