Royals soak Twins with runs as they win 13-9

Jonathan India delivered a standout performance, blasting a grand slam and driving in five runs to lead the Kansas City Royals to a 13–9 win over Joe Ryan and the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday night.

Kyle Isbel was perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a home run, while Noah Cameron turned in a strong outing in his season debut, pitching five solid innings to earn the win. India’s fifth career grand slam — his first with Kansas City — highlighted a massive seven-run sixth inning in which the Royals sent 11 batters to the plate and surged ahead 12–1.

Kansas City’s offense was relentless, going 7-for-16 with runners in scoring position and piling up eight runs with two outs. Cameron allowed just one run on four hits while striking out five to improve to 1–0.

The Royals jumped out early, scoring three runs in the second inning thanks to four straight two-out hits. Isaac Collins, Isbel, and Maikel Garcia each drove in runs during the rally.

Challenging weather conditions — low clouds and steady drizzle — caused problems for fielders. In the third inning, India’s infield popup dropped untouched, allowing Vinnie Pasquantino to score from second. Garcia later added a sacrifice fly in the fourth to extend the lead.

Isbel continued his big night by leading off the seventh with his second home run of the season. He finished with three runs scored and two RBIs, tying his career high with four hits as part of Kansas City’s 15-hit attack.

Garcia drove in three runs, while Jac Caglianone contributed three hits and scored three times.

Minnesota mounted a late push, scoring eight runs over the final three innings. Lucas Erceg recorded the final two outs to earn his second save.

Ryan, an All-Star last season, struggled in his outing, throwing 77 pitches over four innings while allowing five runs on four hits to fall to 0–1. Luke Keaschall provided a spark with a bases-loaded double in the seventh, and Josh Bell capped the scoring with a three-run homer in the ninth.

The game also featured frequent use of the automated ball-strike system, with 11 challenges to home plate umpire Andy Fletcher’s calls. The Twins were highly successful, winning 8 of 9 challenges, including four by Ryan Jeffers during his at-bats.
