SCHULTZ RETIRING FROM CITY COUNCIL
The longest-serving member of the New Ulm City Council is retiring. Les Schultz has served Ward 3 for the past 16 years. He was first elected to the city council in 2008 when he worked as the Brown County Probation Director. He won the election with roughly 450 write-in votes. Among the items he worked on included “Welcome to New Ulm” signs, getting Chammy the horse to stay in New Ulm, supporting a chicken ordinance and also helping create the dog park on South German Street. Schultz chose not to run for a fifth term on the council saying it was time to “bring in some new blood.” Schultz’s last city council meeting will be tonight (Tuesday).
