Senate Approves College-Sports Overhaul

A proposal to establish national rules for college sports is headed to the U-S House after passing the Senate 77-to-22.

The Protect College Sports Act would regulate athlete revenue sharing, transfers, endorsement agreements and agent fees. It also includes limited antitrust protections for the N-C-A-A and other college-sports organizations enforcing authorized rules.

The Big Ten supports the measure. Backers say national standards would bring more stability to college athletics.

The legislation still needs House approval and the president’s signature before becoming law.
