Senator Smith Opposes Republican-Backed Bill to Increase ICE and Border Control Funding
(Learfield News) U.S. Senator Tina Smith is urging colleagues to vote against a Republican-backed bill that would provide more than $70 billion for ICE and Customs and Border Protection. Smith says the agencies should not receive additional funding without new accountability measures. She says the ripple effects of Operation Metro Surge are still impacting Minnesotans. There is nothing to help small businesses that were forced to close or school districts trying to help traumatized students. There’s nothing to help teachers or parents or police departments who have the millions of dollars in overtime costs.
