Senator Smith Visits Ely Wildfire Command Center
U.S. Senator Tina Smith is visiting northeastern Minnesota this afternoon as wildfires continue burning across the region.
Smith is scheduled to visit the wildfire command center near Ely at 1 P-M. She will receive a briefing from federal and local officials, along with emergency response crews working to contain the fires.
Multiple wildfires have burned thousands of acres in and around the Superior National Forest and Boundary Waters. The fires have forced evacuations, closed wilderness areas and produced hazardous smoke across much of Minnesota.
Smith’s visit comes as hundreds of firefighters continue working to protect nearby communities and critical infrastructure.
