Settlement Expands Minnesota Farmers’ Right to Repair

Minnesota farmers will gain greater access to the tools and software needed to repair John Deere tractors and other agricultural equipment.

Minnesota joined the Federal Trade Commission and four other states in reaching a right-to-repair settlement with Deere and Company. The agreement resolves allegations that Deere restricted access to diagnostic software and other resources, forcing many equipment owners to rely on authorized dealers.

For the next 10 years, Deere must offer farmers and independent repair shops resources equivalent to those available to its dealers. That includes software for reading fault codes, programming replacement components, restarting disabled equipment and accessing technical manuals.
