Severe Weather Awareness Wednesday Focus on Flooding

Severe Weather Awareness Week continues today in Minnesota with a Focus on Flooding.

Wednesday’s topic is flooding. Floods kill more people in Minnesota than other weather events. 75% of flooding deaths occur at night time, and of those deaths half died inside vehicles. As little as six inches of rapidly flowing water can knock you off your feet. Never drive through flooded roadways. One foot of water will float most vehicles.

The National Weather Service, Minnesota Department of Public Safety and local Emergency Management Agencies use the slogan “Turn around, don’t drown!”
