Shakopee Revokes Hotel License After Public-Safety Problems

The Shakopee City Council has voted 4-to-1 to revoke the lodging license of the Baymont by Wyndham following dozens of police calls and other public-safety concerns.

City officials say police responded to 84 incidents at the hotel during 2025 and 2026. The calls included disturbances, assaults, welfare checks, criminal sexual conduct reports and repeated fire alarms.

Two people were found dead following a private event at the hotel on New Year’s Day 2025. Authorities reported finding suspected illegal drugs in the room. Officials also cited a 24-hour private event in March that generated 16 calls for service.

Hotel representatives acknowledged mistakes and promised operational changes, but council members determined that revoking the license was necessary. The hotel’s owners may challenge the decision.
