Sheriff’s Office Urges Caution During Spring Planting Season
As spring planting season begins, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office is urging motorists to use extra caution on the roads and highways. With an increase in farm equipment and tractors on the roadways, it is important for drivers to be aware and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and the safety of those around them.
“Farmers are working hard to get their crops in the ground,” says Sheriff Luke Hennen. “Please use extra caution while driving, be patient, and share the road with our farming community to ensure everyone’s safety.”
To help prevent accidents, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office recommends that drivers:
- Be patient when driving behind farm equipment and tractors, as they may be traveling at a slower pace.
- Keep a safe distance from farm equipment and tractors, allowing for sudden stops or turns.
- Use turn signals when passing farm equipment and tractors, and only pass when it is safe to do so.
- Remember that farm equipment and tractors may be wider than other vehicles, so be mindful of the amount of space they require on the road.
Farm equipment operators should:
- Use lights and flashers to make equipment more visible.
- Use slow-moving vehicle emblems on equipment traveling less than 30 miles per hour.
- Consider using a follow vehicle when moving equipment, especially at night.
