Smith Proposes $1.5 Billion for Shelters and Supportive Housing
Minnesota Senator Tina Smith has introduced legislation intended to expand homeless shelters and permanent supportive housing nationwide.
The measure would provide one-point-five-billion dollars over five years to increase shelter capacity and repair or modernize existing facilities.
Smith’s office says more than 6,500 people stay in Minnesota shelters each night, with many facilities operating near capacity.
The bill has been introduced in Congress but has not been approved.
