Spring Football starts today for Gophers

(Minneapolis, MN/Minnesota News Network) — The University of Minnesota football team opens spring practice today on campus. The first practice for the Golden Gophers will feature 36 new players, including incoming high school recruits as well as transfer. Head coach P-J Fleck says he is more excited about this spring period than any he’s been a part of at Minnesota. He says they will need to answer a few questions like who will be the key cogs in the secondary, how they can continue to generate pash rush, continued growth for quarterback Drake Lindsey, and more. Fleck’s team will have 15 total practices over the next five weeks, culminating with a spring game on Saturday, April 25th at Huntington Bank Stadium. The Golden Gophers were 8-5 last season including a bowl game win over New Mexico last December in Phoenix. Minnesota will open the regular by hosting Eastern Illinois on Thursday, September 3rd.
