ST. PETER MAN ARRESTED, BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN PLANNING MASS CASUALTY EVENT

Mankato and St. Peter police along with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are investigating after a St. Peter man was arrested because police believe he may have been planning a mass casualty event.  Documents show Mankato police were called to a Mankato business after a man entered the store wearing a heavy winter coat, hat and a COVID-19 mask and gloves.  Police say he was looking at high-priced items including several magazines for firearms, bear spray and body armor.  The man was identified as 24-year-old Mohamed Adam Mohamed.  He allegedly told store employees he had an AR style rifle and eventually left the business with around $2100 worth of merchandise.  Court documents say the BCA was also aware of the threats and said there was a strong indication Mohamed was preparing for some sort of attack.  St. Peter police executed a search warrant at his home.  He was arrested and charged with felony theft and felony threats of violence.  He is being held on $500,000 conditional bail or $1-million unconditional bail.
