Sunshine Ride Honors Six-Year-Old Katarina Louthain

The first Katarina’s Sunshine Ride is being held today near Grand Forks in memory of six-year-old Katarina Louthain.

Katarina was killed by an impaired driver in 2024. The 100-mile ride is open to motorcycles, cars and pickups and begins and ends at Turtle River State Park near Arvilla.

The event is raising awareness about impaired driving while supporting three programs created in Katarina’s honor. The programs will provide youth tuition assistance, free laundry services for lower-income families and haircuts for people staying at the Grand Forks Mission.

Organizers say the ride is intended to carry Katarina’s memory forward through community service and kindness.
