Sunshine Sunday, Frost Overnight and Warmer Weather by Tuesday
October 4, 2026 | Three-day forecast: Sunday, October 4–Tuesday, October 6
Minnesota’s three-day outlook brings plenty of dry weather and a warmer finish Tuesday, but a cold Sunday night will require attention first. Frost Advisories and Freeze Warnings have been issued for parts of northern and central Minnesota for early Monday morning, with sensitive plants at risk where temperatures fall near or below freezing.
Northern Minnesota
Sunday: Sunshine returns to much of the region, mixed with some clouds. Forecast highs reach 64 degrees in Thief River Falls, 62 in Bemidji and 64 in Duluth. Duluth will have a breezy morning before conditions become quieter later in the day.
Sunday night into Monday morning: A Freeze Warning runs from 1 to 9 a.m. CDT Monday, October 5, for Koochiching County, northern Itasca County, northern and central St. Louis County, and inland portions of Cook and Lake counties. Temperatures could fall as low as 28 degrees in the warned areas. Frost Advisories cover additional Northland communities, including Duluth, Grand Rapids, Walker, Brainerd and Aitkin, during the same hours. Protect sensitive plants before the colder temperatures arrive.
Monday: After the chilly start, partly to mostly sunny skies continue. Highs should reach 62 in Thief River Falls, 60 in Bemidji and 58 in Duluth. Afternoon breezes increase around Thief River Falls.
Tuesday: Temperatures rebound with sunshine mixed with clouds. Highs climb to 69 in Thief River Falls, 70 in Bemidji and 71 in Duluth. Duluth could have another breezy morning, but the daytime forecasts for these communities do not highlight additional rain.
Central Minnesota
Sunday: Morris, Willmar and St. Cloud will see partly to mostly sunny skies, with highs near 67 degrees in all three communities. Overnight temperatures fall to approximately 40 in Morris, 42 in Willmar and 38 in St. Cloud.
A Frost Advisory is in effect from 1 to 9 a.m. CDT Monday for Benton, Chisago, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs, Morrison and Todd counties. The National Weather Service says rural and low-lying areas will be especially susceptible to frost. These alerts do not cover every community in central Minnesota.
Monday: Sunshine and a few clouds continue, with highs reaching 69 in Morris and Willmar and 65 in St. Cloud. Breezy conditions develop in western areas, especially during the afternoon around Willmar.
Tuesday: The warmest afternoon of the three-day stretch arrives with plenty of sunshine. Morris and Willmar should reach 76 degrees, while St. Cloud reaches 75. The Weather Service expects the generally dry pattern to continue as warmer air moves into the region.
Southern Minnesota
Sunday: Partly sunny skies provide a quieter finish to the weekend. Highs should reach 69 degrees in Marshall and New Ulm and 67 in Rochester. Sunday-night lows fall into the lower to middle 40s in these communities.
Monday: Sunshine remains a major part of the forecast. Marshall turns breezy with a high near 73 degrees. New Ulm reaches approximately 71 under partly sunny skies, while Rochester reaches 68 with mostly sunny weather.
Tuesday: Warmer weather spreads across the south. Marshall should reach 78 degrees, New Ulm 76 and Rochester 73, with plenty of sunshine. Marshall will also have breezy conditions during the morning. The daytime forecasts for these communities remain dry through the three-day period.
