Suspected Human Remains Found in Kandiyohi County

The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the apparent discovery of human remains near Lake Lillian.

Authorities say several bones were uncovered during excavation work around 11:30 Wednesday morning.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is helping with excavation of the area and located additional remains believed to be from a single person.

The Minnesota Indian Affairs’ Council was also notified and later responded.  Preliminary findings indicate the remains may be archaeological in nature and of Indigenous origin.

The remains were taken to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination and analysis.
