Three-day forecast: Monday, September 28–Wednesday, September 30
Northern Minnesota
Monday: Rain returns to northwestern Minnesota, with periods of rain around Thief River Falls and showers near Bemidji. Highs should reach 64 to 65 degrees in those communities. Duluth has a quieter daytime forecast, with morning fog giving way to partial sunshine and a high near 64.
Tuesday: Periods of rain continue, with highs near 67 in Thief River Falls and 65 in Bemidji and Duluth. Duluth’s rain is expected to become more persistent from late morning onward.
The National Weather Service expects a soaking rain across the northwest Monday into Tuesday morning. In a corridor extending through Thief River Falls toward Roseau and Baudette, forecasters put the chance of at least one inch of rain at 90%, with a 60% chance of two inches or more. Those probabilities apply to the favored rainfall corridor, not all of northern Minnesota.
Wednesday: Sunshine returns to much of the region. Highs should reach 70 in Thief River Falls, 72 in Bemidji and 74 in Duluth. A few morning showers could linger around Duluth before skies brighten.
Central Minnesota
Monday: Morning fog gives way to a mostly cloudy afternoon. Morris, Willmar and St. Cloud should all reach approximately 68 degrees. Morris has a chance for a few showers, while afternoon breezes increase around Morris and Willmar.
Tuesday: Rain becomes the main weather story. Periods of rain are expected across these communities, with highs around 69 in Morris and 66 in Willmar and St. Cloud. The Weather Service expects the rain to spread eastward through the day.
Wednesday: The outlook improves, with sunshine returning and temperatures climbing into the lower 70s. Forecast highs are 72 in Morris, 71 in Willmar and 72 in St. Cloud. Wednesday offers a better opportunity for outdoor plans in these communities after Tuesday’s rain.
Southern Minnesota
Monday: Areas of morning fog give way to a largely cloudy day. Highs should reach 72 in Marshall and 70 in New Ulm and Rochester. Marshall will also be breezy. Southeastern Minnesota should have a mainly dry afternoon once the fog dissipates.
Tuesday: Rain returns, with highs near 69 in Marshall, 65 in New Ulm and 67 in Rochester. An afternoon thunderstorm is also possible around Rochester.
Wednesday: Conditions vary considerably from west to east. Marshall should see sunshine mixed with a few clouds and a high near 71. New Ulm could have a couple of showers despite some sunshine, also reaching 71. Rochester remains wetter, with periods of rain and a high near 70.
Forecasters are watching the potential for heavier rainfall across southern and southeastern Minnesota as the system moves through Tuesday and Wednesday. Repeated rain could create localized flooding concerns, but the placement of the heaviest totals remains uncertain.
