Timberwolves, Lynx Ownership Deal Valued at $4.5 Billion

The Minnesota Timberwolves and Minnesota Lynx could soon have a new controlling owner under an agreement valuing the franchises at approximately $4.5 billion.

Technology investor Marc Stad has agreed to acquire most of Marc Lore’s ownership stake. Stad, already a minority investor in the franchises, would become their largest shareholder and controlling owner.

Former baseball star Alex Rodriguez will remain a co-owner. He is expected to continue as governor of the Lynx and become alternate governor of the Timberwolves. Stad’s wife, Elisa, is expected to serve as Timberwolves governor, while Lore will remain involved as a minority owner.

The ownership group says it remains committed to the teams’ current leadership, including Timberwolves basketball president Tim Connelly and coach Chris Finch, along with Lynx basketball president and coach Cheryl Reeve.
