Timberwolves stop 4-game losing streak by fending off Clippers 93-92 in NBA Cup play
MINNEAPOLIS – Anthony Edwards scored 21 points on 7-of-21 shooting, leading the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 93-92 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday night, snapping a four-game losing streak in an NBA Cup matchup.
Nickeil Alexander-Walker contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Julius Randle added 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who managed to win despite committing 22 turnovers and squandering another double-digit lead.
For the Clippers, James Harden recorded 20 points and 11 assists, with Ivica Zubac adding 16 points and 13 rebounds. The Clippers briefly took a 90-87 lead with 4:10 remaining after Harden’s four-point play, marking their first lead since 27-26.
However, the Clippers’ momentum faltered when Kevin Porter Jr., who finished with 17 points and seven rebounds, injured his left ankle while driving to the basket with 1:29 left. He lost the ball out of bounds, and the Clippers were trailing by three points at the time.
The Timberwolves completed their West Group A slate with a 2-2 record, while the Clippers are 1-2 with one game remaining in the group stage. Both teams are unlikely to advance to the in-season tournament quarterfinals.
Next up, the Clippers will host Denver on Sunday, while the Timberwolves will host the Lakers on Monday.
