Twins Begin Series in Dan Diego

The Minnesota Twins were off last night and will open a three-game interleague series tonight in San Diego. This will be the third consecutive series against National League competition for Minnesota, which got swept by the Phillies before sweeping the Braves. The 63-65 Twins are three-and-a-half games out of first place in the American League Central and currently holding the final A-L Wild Card slot. The host Padres were also off last night and bring a 68-60 season mark into tonight’s series opener. They trail the Dodgers by nine games in the N-L West, but hold the final N-L Wild Card position. Tonight’s first pitch is 8:40 P-M. Coverage begins at 8pm on KNUJ and SAM 107.3.

The Minnesota Lynx put a five-game winning streak on the line when they face the Mystics in Washington, D-C, tonight. The 30-7 Lynx hold the W-N-B-A’s best record and have won 15 of their 16 games. The host Mystics are 21-14 and have won two straight games. Sixth-place Washington is 8-2 in its last ten contests. Tonight’s game tips off at 6:30 P-M at CareFirst Arena.

Minnesota Vikings quarterback J-J McCarthy will try to lock down the number-two spot on the depth chart this week. Head coach Kevin O’Connell says McCarthy will “more than likely” start under center for tomorrow’s preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens. The 23-year-old lost the battle for the starting job last week to Kyler Murray, who put in a lot of work during joint practices this week. Carson Wentz and Max Brosmer are also expected to get playing time as they compete with McCarthy. Tomorrow’s game kicks off at noon at U-S Bank Stadium in downtown Minneapolis.
