Twins can’t solve Yankees
(Minneapolis, MN) — The New York Yankees blanked the Minnesota Twins for the second day in a row during a 5-0 win at Target Field yesterday. Anthony Volpe led off the game with a solo home run during New York’s three-run first inning, while Clarke Schmidt earned his fifth win by striking out eight and holding the Twins to three hits in eight scoreless innings. The Yankees are on a four-game winning streak and are 30-15 on the season. Minnesota starter Joe Ryan was charged with his third loss after surrendering four runs on six hits in five-and-a-third innings. Minnesota did not score a run in the final 26 innings of the three-game Yankees sweep. The 24-19 Twins are on a three-game losing streak and are two-and-a-half-games behind Cleveland in the A-L Central.
