Twins Defeat A’s

The Minnesota Twins stopped a three-game losing streak with a 9-6 win over the Athletics in Sacramento last night. Twins second baseman Ryan Kreidler belted a home run in the fifth inning, while shortstop Kaelen Culpepper collected four hits. Byron Buxton was 3-for-4 and scored four times. Starting pitcher Zebby Matthews worked seven innings of six-hit, one-run ball to notch his eighth win of the season. He struck out seven and walked only one. The Twins improved to 64-68, while the A’s dropped to 51-81. Third-place Minnesota trails Chicago by four-and-a-half games in the American League Central Division and sits two games out of the Wild Carl position. Game two of the three-game series is tonight at 8:40 P-M. Coverage begins at 8pm on KNUJ and SAM 107.3.

Lynx fall to Golden State:

The Minnesota Lynx saw their six-game winning streak come to an end with an 80-66 home loss to Golden State last night. The visiting Valkyries outscored Minnesota by 12 points in the second half. The Lynx committed 17 turnovers, while Golden State had just six. Minnesota shot just 35-percent from the floor. The Lynx dipped to 31-8 on the season, while the Valkyries improved to 26-11. Minnesota is off until visiting Atlanta on Sunday.
