Twins fall to San Francisco, start MLB Draft
(San Francisco, CA) — The Minnesota Twins have finally lost a series. The Twins dropped the rubber match of their three-game set against the San Francisco Giants 3-2 at Oracle Park yesterday, ending a streak of six-straight series win. Minnesota trailed by a pair of runs entering the top of the ninth before Manuel Margot tied the game with a two-run double. However, Margot made an ill-advised dive on a hit to the outfield the next half-inning which allowed Mike Yastrzemski to hit a triple. He scored on the play when the relay throw to third base went out of play. Jhoan Duran was charged with his fourth loss of the season. The Twins head into the Major League Baseball All-Star break as the second place team in the American League Central Division at 54-42, trailing first-place Cleveland by four-and-a-half-games. Minnesota doesn’t play again until Saturday. In other club news, the Twins place Jose Miranda on the ten-day Injured List and shortstop Carlos Correa announced he will not play in the All-Star Game due to a foot injury.
(Fort Worth, TX) — The Minnesota Twins are building their future. The team selected Kansas State shortstop Kaelen Culpepper with the 21st overall of the M-L-B Draft yesterday. Culpepper hit .328 with 11 home runs, 59 R-B-I, and 17 stolen bases in 61 games with the Wildcats last season. The Twins also selected Louisiana shortstop Kyle DeBarge at pick 33, Tennessee third baseman Billy Amick at pick 60, and high school pitcher Dasan Hill at 69. The Draft continues today.
