Twins hammered by Mets
(Flushing, NY) — The New York Mets rattled of 17 hits during a 15-2 win over the Minnesota Twins last night at Citi Field in New York City. The Twins had a 1-0 lead heading into the fourth inning when the Mets caught fire. They scored six runs in the fourth, five more in the sixth, and another four runs in the seventh frame. New York slugger Pete Alonso hit his 22nd home run in the victory, while Jeff McNeil and Luis Torrens each drove in three runs. Jose Quintana earned his sixth win after allowing a run on five hits in six innings, and Jose Butto picked up his second save. Minnesota outfielder Byron Buxton drove home the game’s first run, while Ryan Jeffers homered in the ninth to give the Twins their final run. Simeon Woods Richardson was charged with his second loss after surrendering six runs on seven hits in three-and-a-third innings. The 58-47 Twins are now five-and-a-half-games behind Cleveland in the A-L Central Division. Minnesota and New York have game two of their series tonight at 6:10 P-M.
