Twins hold on to take opener from Royals
(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Twins got two big hits to propel them to a 6-5 win over the Kansas City Royals in a Memorial Day matinee game yesterday. Third baseman Jose Miranda hit a two-run homer in third inning, while outfielder Trevor Larnach smashed a three-run blast in the fifth inning. Alex Kirilloff’s R-B-I single in the eighth inning ended up being the decisive hit. Joe Ryan was dominant, going seven innings, giving up one run and striking out nine. He improved to 4-3. The third-place Twins are 29-and-24. The Royals mounted a rally in the ninth inning, scoring four runs, but were not able to get over the hump, leaving the tying run on third base. Starter Alec Marsh fell to 4-2 with five runs allowed over seven innings. The second-place Royals are 34-21. Game two of the four-game series is tonight at 6:40 P-M in Minneapolis.
