Twins lose game, possibly Lewis again

(Fort Myers, FL) — The Minnesota Twins lost a Grapefruit League game to the Boston Red Sox in Fort Myers yesterday 6-5. But, they may have lost more than the game. Oft-injured infielder Royce Lewis suffered a hamstring injury while running to first base after he hit a ground ball. He pulled up limping and missed the rest of the game. Manager Rocco Baldelli says there will be testing done to Lewis’ leg, but conceded the start of the season is in jeopardy for Lewis, who has played in only 140 games over the past two seasons combined. Meanwhile, Minnesota ace Pablo Lopez allowed four runs in seven innings of work to take the loss. He is 0-4 this spring with a 7.98 earned run average. Baldelli says he has been impressed with Lopez this spring and is not worried about his stat line. Austin Martin drove home two runs for Minnesota, which fell to 9-11-and-3 in spring training. The Twins play the Pittsburgh Pirates in Bradenton today at 12:05 P-M. In other team news, the Twins optioned starting pitchers David Festa and Zebby Mathews to Triple-A St. Paul, leaving the fifth starting spot in the rotation to Simeon Woods Richardson to begin the season.
