Twins lose pitchers duel on opening day
(Baltimore, MD/Minnesota News Network) — The Minnesota Twins lost an Opening Day pitcher’s duel in Baltimore yesterday with the Orioles outlasting the Twins 2-1. Neither starting pitcher allowed a run, as Minnesota right-hander Joe Ryan worked five-and-a-third innings of one-hit, seven-strikeout baseball. O’s lefty Trevor Rogers fired seven innings of three-hit ball and took the win. The Twins bullpen allowed two runs in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly from Colton Cowson and an R-B-I single from Blaze Alexander. Minnesota outfielder Byron Buxton tripled in the eighth inning and scored on a Luke Keashall sacrifice fly. That was the extent of the scoring. Kody Funderburk took the loss for Minnesota. The two teams will have today off and then resume their three-game, season-opening series tomorrow 3:05 P-M.
