Twins salvage 1 game vs Mets

(Flushing, NY) — The Minnesota Twins used a five-run third inning to beat the New York Mets 8-3 yesterday at Citi Field, salvaging the final game of the three-game series. Minnesota outfielder Byron Buxton opened the scoring with a solo home run in the second inning, and D-H Matt Wallner added a two-run shot in the third. Pablo Lopez earned his tenth win after striking out seven and holding the Mets to two runs on three hits in six innings. Twins right-hander Randy Dobnak pitched a scoreless inning of relief in his first big league appearance since 2021. Mark Vientos hit his 16th home run in the losing effort, and Luis Severino was charged with his fourth loss after surrendering six runs on six hits in three frames. The 59-48 Twins are now six-games behind Cleveland in the A-L Central. Minnesota is off tonight and will start a three-game weekend series against the struggling Chicago White Sox tomorrow night at Target Field.
