Twins salvage a game vs Padres
(San Diego, CA) — The Minnesota Twins avoided a sweep by beating the San Diego Padres 11-4 at Petco Park yesterday. The Twins scored seven runs in the top of the fourth and never looked back. Matt Wallner had a three-run homer in the win, while Austin Martin also drove in three. Martin and Trevor Larnach each registered the first four-hit games of their careers. Rookie right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson earned his fifth win after striking out seven and holding San Diego to a run on three hits in five innings. The Twins snapped a three-game losing streak and moved to within two-and-a-half-games of first-place Cleveland in the A-L Central Division. Former Twin Donovan Solano and emerging star Jackson Merrill both homered in the losing effort for San Diego, while Matt Waldron was charged with his 11th loss after surrendering ten runs on 12 hits in four-and-a-third innings. The loss snapped the Padres two-game winning streak. The Twins are off tonight and will welcome the St. Louis Cardinals to Target Field for a three-game interleague series starting tomorrow night.
