Twins Take Series From Yankees

The Minnesota Twins got seven scoreless innings from starting and winning pitcher Joe Ryan and beat the Yankees in New York yesterday 6-1. Ryan allowed just three hits, struck out nine, and walked one to improve to 6-5 on the year. First baseman Royce Lewis collected two hits and two R-B-I, while third baseman Brooks Lee was 3-for-5 with an R-B-I and a run scored. Minnesota took two of three games in the series, winning a set at Yankee Stadium for the first time since 2014. The Twins outscored the Yankees 17-5 in the final two games of the holiday weekend. Minnesota improved to 44-47 on the season, sitting four games behind first-place Chicago in the American League Central. The Twins are just a game-and-a-half out of the final A-L Wild Card position. The Pinstripes dropped to 49-40 and are four-game out of first place in the A-L East. Minnesota is off tonight and will open a three-game series against Cleveland tomorrow night at Target Field in downtown Minneapolis.
