Twins whip Washington
(Washington, D-C/Learfield News) — The Minnesota Twins scored 11 times on ten hits and six walks to open their three-game interleague series in Washington with an 11-3 victory. Twins centerfielder Byron Buxton belted a three-run homer in the eighth inning to add on to a lead that shortstop Brooks Lee helped construct with three hits and three R-B-I. Outfielder Trevor Larnach added a two-run double, while Josh Bell and Royce Lewis added an R-B-I apiece. The offensive output supported another strong start by right-hander Taj Bradley, who worked six innings of four-hit, two-run ball. He fanned eight and walked two. The 16-20 Twins have won two straight, but remain in fifth-place in the A-L Central, trailing first-place Detroit by a game-and-a-half. The Nationals dipped to 16-20 with the loss. Game two of the series is tonight in the nation’s capital city at 5:45 P-M.
