Twins win first series of the year

(Minneapolis, MN/Minnesota News Network) — The Minnesota Twins have won three straight games and reached the .500 mark after an 8-6 win over Detroit last night at Target Field. Minnesota put six runs on the board in the first inning and never looked back, holding on late for the victory. The 6-6 Twins got to Tigers lefty Framber Valdez early and often, plating six runs in the first without the aid of a homer. Valdez allowed two more runs through his five innings of work. Twins starting and winning pitcher Bailey Ober worked five-and-two-thirds innings of two-run, five-hit baseball. He struck out two and walked one. Minnesota third baseman Royce Lewis capped off the opening inning with a two-run single. Centerfielder Byron Buxton had three hits, drew a walk, and scored three times. Detroit dipped to 4-8 on the season. Minnesota goes for the four-game series sweep with a matinee game today at 12:40 P-M in downtown Minneapolis.
