Two Escape Safely After Floatplane Overturns on Lake Bemidji

Two men escaped without injury after a floatplane overturned while attempting to land on Lake Bemidji Friday afternoon.

The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office received reports of the accident shortly after 4:15 P-M. Authorities say the aircraft flipped and began sinking near the Bemidji Town and Country Club on the lake’s north side.

Both occupants got out safely. The aircraft’s pontoons reportedly kept it from becoming completely submerged.

The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office, Bemidji police and fire departments, Bemidji Ambulance, North Country First Responders and the Minnesota D-N-R assisted at the scene.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating. A cause has not been released. Incident report
