Two More Boundary Waters Entry Points Reopen Tuesday

Two more Boundary Waters entry points will reopen Tuesday as firefighters continue making progress on northeastern Minnesota wildfires.

The Superior National Forest says Little Indian Sioux River South and South Hegman Lake, both along the Echo Trail, will reopen August 25th. More than 16-hundred of the wilderness area’s roughly two-thousand campsites are already available.

The July Lightning fires have burned just over 76-thousand acres. As of Monday, the Camp Fire was 97-percent contained, the Sioux Fire 76-percent contained, and the Bear Trap and Thumb fires were each 55-percent contained.

Officials warn that reopening plans could change if wildfire activity increases. Travelers should also expect delays along the Echo Trail while fire operations continue.
